Trees and Shrubs
Flowers
- Topping (severe pruning) is harmful to trees. If you are concerned high winds may cause a large tree to damage your home, have it removed rather than topped, and replace it with a smaller maturing species.
- Leaf spot diseases are common on trees and shrubs in fall but rarely need to be treated. One exception is entomosporium leaf spot on Indian Hawthorn.
- Fall is typically our driest season. Remember to water trees and shrubs that have been planted less than one year.
Flowers
- Plant pansies and other winter annuals from mid-September through mid October to get established before frost.
- If hurricanes have toppled tall perennials, cut them back by half their height.
