July Garden by the Month Edibles

Vegetables and Herbs
  • A second crop of cucumbers, squash, zucchini, winter squash, beans, and tomatoes can be planted for fall production.
  • Start leeks and brussel sprouts in containers to plant in the garden in September.
  • Heat waves often result in reduced fruit set, especially in tomatoes. Expect a lull in production following hot weather.
  • Removing diseased plants and weeds will help keep your garden healthy.

Fruits
  • As soon as the last blackberries are picked, cut all old fruiting canes back to ground level and fertilize plants.
  • Head back vigorous canes of blueberry bushes.
  • Pick peaches just as they begin to soften.
