Do you have trouble getting your kids up and moving? Parents play a vital role in helping children stay active for life. Be a role model and be physically active yourself. Display a positive attitude that being active is fun and feels good. Provide regular opportunities for the whole family to enjoy physical activity together. Here is a list of ideas to help your family stay active.

  • Head out for a family walk or bike ride each evening after dinner.
  • Spend a weekend afternoon roller skating, line skating or playing touch football.
  • Team up and do housework or yard work.
  • Visit walking-friendly places such as museums or zoos.
  • Practice sports such as basketballs, baseball, or soccer with kids.
  • Participate as a family team in a charity fun run or walk.
  • Purchase a family membership at the community recreation center, YMCA, or health club. Schedule family visits there a few time each week.
