2020 Southeast District Activity Day Results

— Written By

Typically, June brings a lot of excitement! School’s out, 4-H Summer Fun begins, people flock to area beaches, and 4-H members are giving quality presentations on a wide variety of interesting topics.

This year, however, things were a little different. Due to COVID-19, youth have been learning virtually since March, 4-H Summer Fun has to be done online, people are still flocking to area beaches for some sense of normalcy, and 4-H members were still able to give quality presentations, but they were not able to be held in person.

The 2020 County, District, and State level presentations were submitted as a pre-recorded, single-cut video this year. And even though it was not ideal, we find more and more that youth are resilient! Pender County 4-H members did an excellent job of being adaptable, and were able to submit high-quality videos on topics such as plant disease, music, horses, NC fish, voting, pandemics, and more!

This year, we had seven youth participate in County and District Activity Day. Below are the results:

Olivia Andersen – BRONZE 14-18 Arts & Communications
Morgan Hansen – BRONZE 14-18 Public Speaking
Bobby Dolengo – SILVER 14-18 Fisheries & Aquatic Resources
Sierra Dolengo – GOLD 14-18 Horse
Zane Andersen – GOLD 14-18 Horticulture Science

Also presenting were 4-H members Lillie Hansen in 14-18 Science & Technology and Aiden Dolengo 5-7 Cloverbuds.

Gold and Silver level winners are able to move on to the North Carolina 4-H State Presentation Finals! Youth will receive feedback on their scoresheets from Districts, and will be able to take judges’ suggestions and re-record their video to submit for State Presentation Finals.

Congratulations to all, and good luck to those competing at State! You make Pender County 4-H proud!
