Disaster SNAP benefits are meant to help residents that suffered loss due to Hurricane Matthew. Some residents may be eligible to continue receiving SNAP after the Disaster SNAP program ends, but they will need to fill out a separate application.

  • These disaster benefits are temporary and for those who are not current recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as food stamps.
  • It is approved for residents of: Beaufort, Bladen, Columbus, Cumberland, Dare, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lenoir, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, Tyrrell and Wayne counties.
  • Residents must apply by October 26 at designated locations in their counties. See below for dates, locations and times.
  • Eligibility is based on available income and resources. Those applying must provide proof of identity along with proof of residency (if available).
  • Case workers will issue EBT cards on-site for those approved to receive Disaster SNAP benefits.

NC State’s More In My Basket program has a toll-free line to assist with questions about SNAP and eligibility. The More In My Basket line operates Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 1-855-240-1451
  • 1-888-382-7105 (Spanish)

Note that NC State and the More In My Basket program are unable to assist with the Disaster SNAP application (those must go through NCDHHS), but can provide assistance with completing the application for the regular SNAP program.
